How to Replace an audi car key case G28 Engine Speed Sensor

Charles the Humble Technician shows you how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. The sensor is located on the outside of the transmission, above the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU through a grey wire T55/49, then to the tachometer on the instrument cluster.

Located on the edge of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends an electrical signal to ECU pin T55/49 using a grey wire. The ECU then utilizes this information to regulate the boost, fuel, and timig. It also sends an indicator to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to connect with the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is located so that it can trigger spark and injectors accordingly.

If this sensor fails when it fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error message. This means that the Crank Shaft is out of line with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of an issue with the chain or a jumpy chain link in the upper chain. However the code will not appear on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

Testing is a bit tricky since there are two pins replacement key for audi the connector and they perform different functions but the most effective method to test it is by measuring resistance between the sensor and the ECU. It should read approximately 1000 ohms when the sensor is in full operation. Look for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you have issues with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, when accelerating from highway paytoll at full speed, i noticed a huge decrease in power. It was as if the engine had run out of gas. Or, my injectors were not firing. In the morning, i removed the spark plugs, three were drenched in gazoline, the fourth was dry. When I start the engine, there are no sparks, I put a piece of tissue on the top of each of the injector holes, the 3 drenched with gazoline leap out, however the 4th stays closed. I tested the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I got zero ohm. I'm assuming that the issue is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it runs fine with the G28 connected. However the intermittent misfire issue persists at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature of -49c, even if I unplug it. Also, i noticed that the oil pressure gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar when the actual pressure is 0.0 if i crank up the engine.

I'm not certain what to do, i believe that i've ruled out everything else. I'm afraid i may have missed something. Please let me know should you have any suggestions! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 receives signals from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 sender, and both operate on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily find a spare in a wrecking shop or parts store. Testing them is easy - put your DMM in resistance mode and take measurements between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's side up) and 2 (2nd from left on the black connector's end). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU of our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY) engines needs to be aware of the speed and position of the crankshaft to determine fuel injector timing, etc. It utilizes a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to accomplish this. If either of these sensors go wrong, you will receive codes on the diagnostic scanner which can cause the engine to shut down.

Some of the signs of a failed G28 sensor include an inaccurate rev counter in the gearbox and gears that shift faster than normal and/or misfiring when you're in gear. It is likely that your sensor is failing and needs to be replaced if you experience any of these symptoms. The good thing is that they are very affordable and readily available, especially if you're looking at the Bosch unit like ours. Alternately, the GM version of this unit is also a good option.

5. Tachometer

A faulty engine speed sensor could be the cause of numerous problems in your car. It's an essential component of the transmission in your audi advance key, as it transmits information to the ECU about how fast or slow the engine of the car is spinning. If the sensor fails, it will disrupt the performance of the transmission, as well as the other car's components.

The G5 engine speed sensor is situated on the outside of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear and sends a signal directly to the ECU at pin T55/49 through an uncolored wire. The ECU is then able to process the signal to control the flow of fuel, timig and boost, and also transmitting it to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster. You can determine if the sensor is in failure by examining the continuity from the sensor to the tachometer. You can also check continuity between pin T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 and pin T26a/12. It should show approximately 1000 ohms of resistance between those two pins. This is a common feature across the audi replacement car keys audi advance key copy, just click the following webpage, 80-100-200-RS2 series, starting beginning with the 1985 MC and up to the 1997 UrS AN and the 1995 RS2 Du You may also find good ones in wrecking yards.Nissan-New.png
