How to Replace an Audi A1 keys G28 Engine Speed Sensor

Charles the Humble Technician teaches how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. This sensor is situated near the transmission's edge over the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via a grey wire (T55/49) which is then sent to the tachometer within the instrument cluster.

The grey wire is located at the edges of the transmission, directly above the flywheel ring. The sensor sends an electrical signal through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU uses this information to control the amount of fuel and boost. It also sends a signal to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used as a reference to correlate with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft has reached TDC and also the location of the camshaft so that it can activate the spark and Audi Tt key Case injectors.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will display a P00160 code which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are out of sync and possibly indicating chain stretch or a jumped link on the upper chain of timing. However the code will not appear on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

It can be a bit difficult to test because there are different connector pins, and they all have different functions. The best way to do it is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. It should read approximately 1000 ohms if the sensor is operating at its maximum. Check for signs of coolant, or oil in the connector bay if you have issues with this component.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, when i was accelerating to the fullest speed from highway paytoll, i experienced an abrupt drop in power as if the engine was running out of gas or the injectors are not firing anymore. In the morning, i removed the spark plugs, three were soaked with gazoline and the 4th one was dry. When I crank the engine with no sparks, i place a tissue on the top of each of the injector holes and the 3 that were drenched in gazoline pop out, but the 4th stay closed. I checked the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I found zero ohm. I think the issue is elsewhere.

I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car can start if the G28 is disconnected and it runs perfectly when it is plugged in but it still has the intermittent misfire issue at higher RPM. The coolant temperature sensor (G62) shows the wrong temp value -49c, even if I unplug it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar while the actual pressure is 0.

I'm not sure what to do. I think I've ruled everything else out. I'm concerned that i may have missed something. If anyone has any suggestions, please share them! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump of the g28 receives signals from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 sender and works on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. It is easy to find an extra in a wrecking shop or parts store. Test them out - put your DMM in resistance mode and measure between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector end up) and 2 (2nd from the left on the black end of the connector). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU of our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY) engines requires to know the position and speed the crankshaft to make decisions regarding timing of the fuel injector, etc. It uses a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to accomplish this. If you have a problem with either one of these, the diagnostic scanner will display codes that could cause an engine shut down.

A damaged G28 sensor could cause an inaccurate gearbox speed counter or a gearbox that shifts faster than normal, or audi tt key replacement replacement car keys (Https://maps.google.cv/Url?q=https://peatix.com/user/24064492) an unfire when in the gear. It is likely that your sensor is failing and needs to be replaced if you notice any of these symptoms. They are cheap and easy-to-find, especially in the case of an Bosch unit like ours. Alternately, the GM version of this part is also a great option.

5. Tachometer

A faulty engine speed sensor could be the cause of numerous issues in your car. It is an important part of the transmission in your Audi Car Key Case, as it transmits information to the ECU about how fast or slow the engine is turning. If the sensor fails, it can affect the performance of the transmission as well as the rest of the car's components.

The G5 engine speed sensor is located on the edge of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a signal directly to the ECU at pin T55/49 via a grey wire. The ECU is then able to process this signal to regulate the flow of fuel, timig and boost and then transmitting it to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster. You can test the sensor for failure by checking continuity between it and the tachometer, between ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection on pin T6a/1 (trace [79trace [79]) and between T6a/1 and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. You should see a resistance of approximately 1000 ohms between these two points. This is a standard part across the audi tt replacement key 80, 100 200, UrS and RS2 range from 1985 MC to the 1997 UrS AAN and 1995 RS2 ADU. Good parts could be found in wrecking yards.Porsche-New-2023.png
