World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Item upgrades are a way to boost the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade, it may increase an item's Mark Level or Rarity, as well as boost other stats.

Each item has a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the price of the next item by a specific amount.

Item Level

The value of an item's stats base increases when it is upgraded. The value is the sum of all its upgraded advantages (attack, magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be expensive depending on who you hire and what you do. This is due to the variety of perks that need to be changed in order to upgrade an item.

Item level is a commonly used measure of power, and can be seen on all tooltips of items. It also serves to limit the amount of PvP gear players can wear since PvP is not available at lower levels. Players can view their average level of items on their character sheet.

When deciding to purchase or sell equipment, players can compare the levels of the item. It's a useful gauge of an item's worth and the amount of damage it's capable of causing. Comparing items from a vendor's stock can be done by using the item's level.

On PC, you can see the level of the item using ALT, or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will display the full description of the item, as well as its ilvl. It can also be located by hovering an item with the mouse cursor and entering /itemlevel into chat.

There are many theories about how the item level is determined. One theory is that the item level is a numerical value derived from a formula which calculates how much an item's stats are worth. It considers that different perks are valued differently, and that gems in sockets increase the item's value. This could result in an item's ilvl calculated, which is often very close to Blizzards actual item level.

This is not the only factor that affects the value of an item. The location of where the item was dropped can change its stats. For instance, it could increase the item's haste, or crit rating. This means that items that drop at higher levels will have more value than items dropped in lower-level instances.

Item Stats

Item stats can be the difference between a good or bad item for players. The game makes use of a lot of them in different ways to encourage players to use multiple weapons, and prevent one weapon from being "the Best item upgrader." The base stats of a weapon are boosted by the weapon's stat mods which are then enhanced by the player's level.

Item upgrades add to that by boosting certain stats on the item. The rarity of an item determines its cost of upgrading. For instance, a grey or white item can only be upgraded once, while an item with the rare tiers can be upgraded many times with higher prices.

Another method to alter the stats of an item is through affixes. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player, and they come in all sizes and shapes. Affixes are used to give items additional damage or other special abilities (such as reviving dead or reducing cooling downs) or to make them unique by adding a name.

All affixes can be re-rolled at the moment by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button. This process will cost the player a specific amount of gold and items, which can be added to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as the other options for rerolling.

In addition to rerolling affixes, players can select which stats to keep on an item after it is upgraded. The range of stats determined by the item's level. However each item will include at least one stat in that range unless they are an exclusive item, or an item level upgrade that has a God Roll from a raid boss.

Another thing that could be altered by adding an option to upgrade the equipment without rolling the affixes, or selecting which stats to boost. However, as with the base equipment, this would have to be performed on a per-item basis and the interface for item comparison will not show all the stats that could be gained or lost at once.

Item Luck

A player's Luck stat stacks up to increase the chances of item discoveries and the properties that are spawned from loot drops and the strength of those properties. However, it does not directly affect damage or ability to upgrade items. It gives the player the chance to upgrade gear earlier in the game. This is particularly advantageous in early game runs because players tend to put weapon scaling and defenses above raw damage gains.

In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the chances of success when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This is not to confuse with the Blacksmith’s overall upgrade chances that increase with each item level. They can also be enhanced by using anti-materials, such as a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

The shields, armor, and weapons have a default Luck value of 40. These items can then be upgraded with golden ingots, spined leather or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to grant an additional +40 Luck, or to increase the Luck of an item, up to 140.

Certain items, like the weapon that is infused with hollow can also be crafted to increase the damage dealt by any skill that deals damage by 5percent. These items are available at the store or crafted using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Upgrades to items are a costly process and not every upgrade will be successful. Cash shop items can be used to increase the success rate of an upgrade or to prevent players from losing their item in the event that it fails.

When you upgrade an item the success rate is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the chance of completing the upgrade successfully, and it can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The probability of success can only be increased so high, and the probability that an upgrade will fail cannot exceed 100%.

The success of an item upgrade is also affected by the Luck of that item. All items have an average success rate of 25 percent and each item upgrader that has Luck increases the chance of success by five percent.

Note that item upgrades are rendered above the items in the inventory, so enchantment glint and other effects could be obstructed by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
